This type of Mauser rifle is the improved product from the M1893 to 1896 model. The model 98 uses bigger ring barrel and considered as a high pressure devices. The diameter is .20-inches bigger than the thread overall diameter and the bolt throw is longer for about .30-inch size. It means that the rifle is able to accommodate long cartridges, such as the .270 model. This type of gun is the most used and accepted rifle product in North America. It also has different kinds of variations.
