Panzer badge or tank badge firstly appeared in World War 1 and reactivated in Spanish civil war (which Germany also participated).

Wehrmacht silver panzer assault badge itself was first introduced in 20 December 1939, which awarded to tank crews who successfully fulfilled their mission during the invasion of Poland few months before.

Panzer badge was designed by Ernst Peekhaus from Berlin; the production of this badge was ordered by Wehrmacht commander Colonel General Walther von Brauchitsch.

Another class of this medal which was made from bronze was introduced on June 6 1940, which added as an award for the crew of other armoured vehicles (assault gun, halftrack, etc).

The shape of panzer badge itself is oval surrounded by the oak leaves circle, 5 leaves on the left side and 4 leaves on the right side.

At the bottom of the badge the oak leaves was tied.

A tank comes out from the oak leaves circle facing forward from left side to the right side of the oak leaves, an area under the tank look like grass on a soil, the left track of the tank cover the right side of the oak leaves and at the top of the badge there is an eagle with its wings folded down, and its legs held a Nazi swastika.

Requirements criteria of this award are:

Take part in three assaults using armoured vehicle in three different days.

Wounded during an armoured assault using armoured vehicles.

Received an award for bravery in armoured assault.

Silver panzer badge is awarded to the tank commander, gunner or radio operator; while bronze panzer badge is awarded to panzer grenadier regiments, assault gun crew, armoured reconnaissance vehicle unit and medical personnel that participated in combat with armoured vehicles.

The panzer badge award must be approved by the commander of the tank division.

As the war continues, it was realised that one panzer badge is no longer enough as there are more and more tank crew veterans that involved in various battles which involved tanks and armoured vehicles. On June 1943, four classes of panzer badge with number 25, 50, 75 and 100 which symbolise the number of participated battles by the recipients was introduced.

The shape of this panzer badge is same with the pre – June 1943 badge. This new badge has a small box with the class number inside the box. The box itself is located at the bottom of the oak leaves circle. The size of the panzer badge number 25 and 50 are slightly larger than the old badge, while the badge number 75 and 50 are also slightly larger than the panzer badge number 25 and 50.

The Iron Cross is indisputably the most historically rich and notorious German award. Its long tradition dates back to 1813, when King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia first instituted the order during the War of Liberation against Napoleon.

The cross went on to be suspended from the uniforms of admirable German soldiers in the 1870 Franco-Prussian War, and again in 1914 for World War I. Through the sacrifice of the men who earned it, its humble but striking design became synonymous with old world German courage and triumph.

Medals and large badges were worn on the lower pocket while smaller ribbons were worn above the pocket flap. This manner of ribbon wear was similar to awards of the American military. Extremely high ranking decorations, such as the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, were worn as "neck orders" suspended from the uniform collar.

The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was a senior award of the standard Iron Cross and was worn suspended from a recipient's neck. The Knight's Cross was awarded in several grades to include the Knight's Cross with oak leaves and swords.

The Iron Cross was a standard decoration of Nazi Germany and also of the planet Ekos. The Iron Cross was issued in two different classes, first and second.

The War Merit Cross - awarded for non-combat deeds of a heroic or meritorious nature. When the Hirogen took over the USS Voyager and trapped the crew in a World War II holodeck scenario, one of the German holodeck characters wore this badge on his uniform.

Iron Cross Spange - Worn as an attachment to the Iron Cross of World War I, the Iron Cross Spange denoted an additional award of the same grade of the Iron Cross for service during World War II.

Infantry Assault Badge - The Infantry Assault Badge, which was a close approximate to the American Combat Infantryman Badge, was worn on the front of a recipient's uniform and denoted front line service as an infantryman.

Wound Badge - Nazi Germany issued a Wound Badge for those injured in combat with the degree of the badge determined by how severely the bearer had been wounded. By the end of 1992, V Corps was the only remaining corps in Germany, after VII Corps inactivated.

VII Corps participated in five campaigns during World War II. The assault and landing at Utah Beach, Normandy, 6 June 1944, spearheaded the American landings on the Normandy beaches. The four other subsequent campaigns were Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe.

First Army's plan to break out of the lodgment area was Operation COBRA, a 25 July attack by VII and XIX Corps that shattered the German defenses at the town of St. Lo and passed infantry and armored columns through the gap and out of the Brittany peninsula.

Once clear of the Bocage country, the spearheads turned east toward Paris, rapidly encircling portions of two German armies in what became known as the Falaise-Argentan pocket. Later, as part of the First Army attack into the Siegfried Line and Huertgen Forest, attacks began on 14 September 1944.

Gen. Hodges, the First Army Commander, directed V Corps to protect the flank of VII Corps, which was leading the First Army attack into Germany. Worse fighting was yet to come, as First Army directed V Corps to support the VII Corps attack deeper in the Huertgen Forest.

With the capture of the Roer dams, the way was open for VII Corps to move on into Germany and for the First Army to close on the Rhine.

Two important items of insignia appeared on almost all German Army uniforms. These were the National Emblem (das Hoheitszeichen) and the cap cockade (die Deutche Reichs kokarde).

The National Emblem was by law worn on the right breast of army jackets and in a smaller version on all army cloth head dress. The emblem consisted of an eagle, by tradition the National Emblem of Germany, with outstretched wings clutching in its claws a wreath containing a swastika (Hakenkreuz), the emblem of the National Socialist Workers Party of Germany (NSDAP) which in combination constituted the official emblem of the Third Reich.

The other insignia was the Reich Cockade which was made up of the national colours of Germany - red centre, white (or silver) and black outer.

This national cockade was surrounded by a wreath of oakleaves (symbolizing strengh) when worn on the Uniform Cap, the black Panzer Beret and on the old style Officers Field Service Cap. On all other cloth head dress only the cockage was used.

Many styles and variations in design and colouring of the National Emblem, the Reich Cockade and the oakleaf surround existed and these will be noted in various plates where they are cleary shown being worn.

The National Socialist style and new colours laid down for the Reichskokarde and steel helmet transfers were introduced by order date 15th March 1933 and insturciton for the wearing of all forms of the new National Emblem on military uniforms were issued on 30th October 1935.
